Preisha Agarwal, a 12-year-old student from Monmouth Junction, has been announced as the first place winner of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Freehold’s 2018 Oratorical Contest. Agarwal was handpicked by a select group of judges for her extraordinary presentation entitled “Where Are My Roots of Optimism,” talking about optimism being passed down from generation to generation in one’s family. The piece included statements about the importance of optimism in society and in one own’s life, whether when spending time with friends and family, or uring activities, which necessitate having a positive mindset.
Bill Madden has been a volunteer with Freehold First Aid for more than 45 years. He shared some of the squads history with our club members. Bill also shared some of the struggles they face raising funds and recruiting voluteers. Please consider sending a donation to support your local, all volunteer First Aid Squad.
The Sunrise Optimist Club and Foundation of Freehold are proud to support the CentraState Health Awareness Center. The Health Awareness Center provides health education to children and families in our community.
Dawn Doherty, Executive Director of The Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, was our guest speaker. Dawn shared valuable information about the Not-for-Profit organization and what they are doing to suport our community.
The Sunrise #Optimist Club of Freehold was proud to recognize the students who earned a spot in the National Junior Honor Society. NJHS honors students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership,character, and citizenship. Our club provided pizza and bagels to the students at their first NHS meeting at Eisenhower and Barkalow Middle Schools.

Congratulations to Sammy Shapiro who advanced to the District Level of the Oratorical Contest! Sammy earned a $500 scholarship for his Essay on the topic: What the World Gains from Optimism.
Congratulations to our top 3 teams in the Stock Market Challenge! The top team earned an 11% return on their portfolio during the 6 week program.
